Kwara Moves to Digitise Healthcare System, Seeks Stakeholders’ Support for Reform Plan

The Kwara State Government has launched fresh efforts to transform healthcare delivery through digital technology, calling on stakeholders across the health sector to support the development of a state-specific implementation roadmap aimed at improving medical services and healthcare coordination.
The initiative was unveiled during a three-day workshop held in Ilorin on the implementation of the National Digital Health Initiative, where government officials, healthcare experts and development partners gathered to discuss strategies for building a more efficient and technology-driven health system in the state.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Kwara State Ministry of Health, Dr. Taoheed Abdullahi, who represented the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina El-Imam, said the programme was designed to translate national healthcare policies into practical solutions tailored to the realities and needs of Kwara residents.
According to the state government, the proposed digital healthcare roadmap is expected to improve accountability, strengthen resource management, enhance patient data coordination and ensure more effective healthcare delivery across hospitals and medical facilities in the state.
Officials at the workshop stressed that the digitalisation of healthcare has become increasingly important as pressure continues to grow on Nigeria’s health sector, particularly in areas involving access to quality medical care, data management and efficient service delivery.
The government also urged participants at the workshop to contribute ideas capable of producing a realistic and inclusive digital health framework that aligns with both national priorities and the healthcare challenges facing Kwara State.
Also speaking, the National Digital Health Initiative Focal Person, Dr. Kudirat Lambe, explained that the engagement would review existing digital health systems within the state and assess Kwara’s readiness for full implementation of technology-driven healthcare solutions.
She added that the workshop is expected to produce a practical four-year implementation plan focused on improving healthcare coordination, strengthening infrastructure and modernising healthcare delivery throughout the state.
