Former Katsina Senator Bello Mandiya Dies At 62

Former Senator representing Katsina South, Bello Mandiya, has died at the age of 62, throwing Katsina State’s political community into mourning.

Mandiya died on Monday, September 7, 2026, in Abuja, with the Katsina State Government confirming his death. His burial is expected to take place in Abuja on Tuesday.

Reacting to the development, Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, expressed shock and sadness over the former lawmaker’s death, describing it as a major loss to Katsina State and Nigeria.

Radda described Mandiya as a committed public servant whose contributions to the development of the state and the country would not be forgotten.

Before entering the National Assembly, Mandiya served as Chief of Staff to former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari.

He later contested the Katsina South senatorial election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress and won the seat in 2019.

Mandiya served as Senator representing Katsina South from 2019 to 2023 during the Ninth National Assembly.

Governor Radda said the late senator’s experience in both state and federal public service formed an important part of his legacy.

The governor extended his condolences to Mandiya’s family, former Governor Masari, the people of Katsina South, his political associates and friends, as well as his former colleagues in the Senate.

Radda also prayed for the repose of Mandiya’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, reward his good deeds and grant his family the strength to bear the loss.
