Former England international Ashley Young has confirmed he will retire from professional football at the end of the current season, closing a career that has lasted more than two decades.
The 40-year-old made the announcement while reflecting on his long journey across English and European football, saying he feels proud of everything achieved in the game.
Young is currently with Ipswich Town, where he has been part of their push in the Championship, although injuries have limited his appearances this season.
He began his professional career at Watford in 2003 and quickly rose to prominence as one of the most exciting wide players in English football.
His performances earned him moves to Aston Villa and later Manchester United, where he enjoyed the most successful period of his career.
At Old Trafford, he won major trophies including the Premier League, FA Cup, and Europa League, while also transitioning from winger to full-back.
He later played for Inter Milan in Italy, where he added a Serie A title to his achievements before returning to England for the final stages of his career.
On the international stage, he earned caps for England and represented the country at major tournaments, including the World Cup and European Championship.
Over the years, he became known for his versatility, leadership, and ability to adapt his playing style as his career progressed.
With retirement now confirmed, attention shifts to Ipswich’s final games, which could mark his last appearance on the pitch after a 23-year journey in professional football.
