Former Army Spokesman Dies In Bandits’ Captivity

Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former spokesperson of the Nigerian Army, has died while being held captive by bandits weeks after he was abducted in Katsina State.
The Katsina State Government confirmed the sad development on Saturday, describing his death as a painful loss not only to his family but also to the state and the entire country.
Not fewer than several rescue efforts were made by security agencies and government officials to secure his freedom, but all attempts ended without success.
Officials said the retired military officer died after suffering health complications linked to diabetes and high blood pressure while in the custody of his abductors.
A statement released by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Muazu, said the government received the news with deep sadness.
The former senior officer was reportedly kidnapped alongside his wife while travelling through Katsina State earlier this month.
His abduction had attracted national attention after reports emerged that the kidnappers demanded the release of detained fighters in exchange for his freedom.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda described the incident as a dark moment and said it highlights the urgent need for stronger action against banditry and insecurity.
The state government also extended condolences to the family of the late military officer while assuring residents that efforts to fight criminal groups remain a top priority.
Authorities have vowed to continue working with security agencies across the country to ensure those responsible for the abduction and death are brought to justice.
