Four Killed In Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crash

Four people have died and another sustained injuries after a passenger bus collided with a truck near Straight Gate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

The crash involved a blue Mitsubishi Cabstar with registration number FGE 753 XA and an ash-coloured HOWO truck with registration number T-695 KT. According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), eight people were involved in the accident.

The four victims, all adult males, were confirmed dead at the scene, while another adult male sustained varying degrees of injuries. Three other people involved in the crash escaped without injuries.

The Ogun State Sector Command of the FRSC confirmed the incident, with the agency beginning rescue and emergency response operations following the collision.

The crash adds to the continuing road safety concerns along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, one of Nigeria’s busiest interstate routes linking Lagos with other parts of the country.

The expressway has recorded several serious crashes in recent years, with road safety officials and other stakeholders repeatedly warning motorists about speeding, vehicle defects, dangerous driving and other factors that contribute to accidents.

The latest crash again highlights the risks faced by commercial drivers and other road users on the busy route, particularly where heavy-duty trucks and passenger vehicles operate alongside each other.

The FRSC has continued to urge motorists to exercise caution, maintain their vehicles properly and obey traffic regulations to reduce avoidable deaths on the nation’s highways.
