Troops Destroy Terrorist Camp in Sokoto, Recover Rifle, Military Items

Nigerian troops have intensified operations against terrorist groups in Sokoto State, destroying a suspected terrorist camp and recovering weapons and other items believed to have been used by the criminals.

The latest operation was carried out in several locations in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State as troops stepped up clearance operations against terrorist elements operating in the area.

According to the Defence Headquarters, troops conducted operations in Tsamiya, Gandaba Gabas, Karradai, Zamoria, Tumunna and Bilange Forest, where they destroyed a terrorist camp and recovered a rifle, military uniforms and identification cards.

The military said the recovered items were found during the clearance operations as troops moved through areas believed to be used as hideouts by the terrorists.

The destruction of the camp is seen as another setback for criminal groups using remote locations in Sokoto to operate, hide weapons and keep abducted victims or stolen property.

In another operation in Rabah Local Government Area, troops recovered a locally fabricated rifle near Maikujera, after the weapon was allegedly abandoned by terrorists following an earlier ambush on troops.

The recovered rifle was found concealed in the area and was subsequently taken into military custody for further investigation and action.

The latest operations form part of the wider offensive by Nigerian troops against terrorism, banditry and kidnapping across the North-West.

Troops operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have continued to target terrorist and bandit enclaves in Sokoto and neighbouring states, with recent operations also recording the recovery of weapons, motorcycles and other equipment used by criminal groups.

In a separate operation in Sokoto, troops recently thwarted an attempted advance by armed terrorists towards Ghandi town in Rabah Local Government Area after receiving intelligence about the movement of the group.

The troops deployed to strategic positions around Ghandi Bridge and engaged the terrorists when they made contact, forcing them to retreat. Some of the attackers were reportedly wounded during the encounter.

The military has continued to rely on intelligence-led operations to locate terrorist camps and prevent armed groups from establishing strongholds in communities across the North-West.

The recovery of military uniforms and identification cards from the destroyed camp is particularly significant, as such items can be used by criminal groups to disguise their identity or facilitate movement and attacks.

The latest offensive also comes amid renewed military efforts to rescue kidnapped Nigerians and dismantle the networks responsible for attacks, abductions and other violent crimes across the region.

The Defence Headquarters recently reported that troops rescued 36 abducted persons during operations across the country and neutralised several terrorists, including suspected kingpins, in different theatres.

In Sokoto, the military said its forces would continue clearance operations aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement and destroying their camps and operational bases.

The recovery of the rifle and other materials will also provide security agencies with additional evidence that could assist ongoing efforts to identify and track members of the criminal networks operating in the affected areas.

The military has continued to urge communities to provide credible information that can help troops identify terrorist movements and prevent attacks before they occur.

With the latest destruction of the terrorist camp and recovery of weapons and military-related items, security forces are maintaining pressure on criminal groups operating in the Sokoto axis.

The operations are expected to continue as the military works to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks and restore greater security to communities affected by violence in the North-West.
