PDP Crisis Worsens in Oyo as Lawmakers, Aspirants Dump Party Ahead of 2027

Fresh cracks have opened within the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State following a wave of resignations by key members and political aspirants ahead of the 2027 elections.
The growing exit movement has affected federal lawmakers, local government officials, and governorship hopefuls, deepening concerns over the party’s internal stability in the state.
Among those reported to have resigned are House of Representatives members Anthony Adebayo Adepoju and Adedeji Stanley Olajide, alongside Oluyole Local Government Chairman Akeem Olatunji and governorship aspirant Olufemi Ajadi.
Most of the departing members blamed persistent leadership disputes and unresolved internal crises for their decisions to leave the party.
Sources within the political circle say the development may not be unconnected to growing uncertainty over political alignments ahead of the next general elections.
The resignations have also fueled speculation that several loyalists of Governor Seyi Makinde may eventually move to another political platform if the PDP crisis continues unresolved.
Some reports suggest consultations are already ongoing among affected politicians regarding possible next moves, although most of them have not publicly announced their new political destinations.
Political observers believe the situation could reshape Oyo’s political landscape, especially as parties begin early positioning ahead of 2027.
The crisis is also seen as part of the wider internal struggle currently affecting the PDP at the national level, with several factions battling for control and influence.
Despite the wave of resignations, some party loyalists insist the PDP remains strong in Oyo and capable of recovering before the next election cycle.
As tension continues to grow within the party, attention is now focused on whether more defections will follow and how the PDP leadership plans to stop the widening crack before campaign activities fully begin.
