Osun Poll: Police Seal State Borders, Deploy 30 Commissioners for Election Security
The Nigeria Police Force has placed Osun State under a major security operation ahead of the governorship election, deploying 30 Commissioners of Police alongside other senior officers to coordinate security across the state.
Over 15,000 police personnel are expected to be on duty for Saturday’s poll, with a Deputy Inspector-General of Police assigned to coordinate the entire security operation. The deployment also includes a police helicopter and drone units for aerial and area surveillance.
The massive operation is aimed at preventing violence, intimidation and other forms of electoral disruption before, during and after the election. Security operatives are expected to maintain a strong presence at polling units, collation centres and other strategic locations across the state.
The police had begun preparations and deployment weeks before the election, according to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, as authorities moved to put Osun under tight security ahead of the crucial governorship contest.
Residents, political parties and supporters are expected to comply with security directives as the state prepares to elect its next governor. The large-scale deployment underscores the level of attention being given to preventing any breakdown of law and order during the exercise.
