Osun on High Alert as Security Agencies Flood State Ahead of Governorship Poll
Security has been significantly tightened across Osun State as soldiers, police officers, NSCDC personnel and operatives of other agencies move into the state ahead of the governorship election.
The heavy deployment comes as the state enters the final days before the poll, with security agencies taking positions across Osogbo and other strategic locations to prevent violence and maintain order.
The personnel deployed include officers and men of the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, as well as operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and other security agencies.
The large security presence has placed the state under intense watch as political activities heighten ahead of the election. Security operatives are expected to monitor movements, protect electoral officials and materials, and respond to any attempt to disrupt the voting process.
Authorities have repeatedly warned politicians, party supporters and other residents against violence, intimidation and any action capable of threatening the peaceful conduct of the election.
The deployment is also expected to serve as a deterrent against vote-buying and other electoral offences, with anti-graft and security agencies positioned to monitor activities around the poll.
Residents have, however, been urged to cooperate with security personnel and avoid actions that could create panic or interfere with the movement and duties of officers deployed across the state.
As Osun prepares to go to the polls, attention is now focused on whether the massive security operation will help ensure a peaceful election and allow voters to carry out their civic duty without fear or intimidation.
