Lagos Building Collapse Claims Eight Lives As Rescue Teams Save 26 Victims

The number of people confirmed dead in the recent Lagos building collapse has risen to eight, while emergency responders have rescued 26 survivors as search efforts continue at the scene of the tragedy.
The incident happened at Alakija on the Lagos-Badagry corridor, where a busy multi-storey structure suddenly gave way, trapping several occupants and causing widespread panic among residents and business operators nearby.
Rescue officials confirmed that teams have been working nonstop since the collapse, carefully removing debris while trying to locate anyone who may still be trapped beneath the wreckage.
Among those who lost their lives were several occupants caught inside the building when the structure unexpectedly crashed to the ground during normal business activities.
Emergency responders, including personnel from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, firefighters and medical workers, quickly moved in after distress calls were received from the area.
A total of 26 people have so far been pulled out alive, with many of the injured immediately taken to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care.
Heavy rescue equipment has also been deployed to speed up operations as officials continue searching through the remains of the collapsed building.
Security operatives have cordoned off the environment to prevent crowd interference and allow emergency workers carry out operations without disruption.
Authorities are expected to launch a full investigation to determine the exact cause of the structural failure and whether building regulations were violated.
The latest disaster has once again renewed public concern over repeated cases of building collapse in Lagos, with many demanding stricter enforcement of safety standards across construction sites.
