FG Declares Tuesday Eid-ul-Mawlid Holiday

The Federal Government has given Nigerians an extra day off work next week, declaring Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration.
The holiday declaration means Tuesday, August 25, 2026, will be a work-free day nationwide, allowing Muslims to observe Eid-ul-Mawlid while other Nigerians also get a break from normal official activities. The announcement was made by Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
Tunji-Ojo used the declaration to call for more than celebration, urging Nigerians to reflect on the lessons of compassion, humility and service to others associated with the life of Prophet Muhammad.
He said the values should not be limited to Muslims, stressing that all Nigerians have a role to play in promoting peace, unity and national cohesion.
The minister also appealed to citizens to use the Eid-ul-Mawlid period to pray for the country and embrace peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and restraint during the celebration.
The Federal Government further restated its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace across the country.
With the declaration now confirmed, government offices, banks and many businesses are expected to observe the public holiday on Tuesday as Muslims across Nigeria mark Eid-ul-Mawlid.
