Yilwatda Defends Tinubu’s Reforms, Promises Better Days for Nigerian Workers

Amid growing economic concerns, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, has assured Nigerians that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to improving workers’ welfare.
Speaking in commemoration of International Workers’ Day 2026, Yilwatda acknowledged the hardship many workers are currently facing but insisted that ongoing reforms are aimed at securing long-term stability for the country.
He described Nigerian workers as critical to national survival, noting that their endurance through difficult economic conditions reflects their importance to the nation’s growth and recovery efforts.
The APC chairman also defended key policy decisions of the Tinubu administration, including subsidy removal and currency reforms, saying they were necessary steps to correct long-standing structural problems in the economy.
According to him, while the immediate effects have been tough, the reforms are designed to create a more sustainable system that will eventually improve job opportunities and increase overall productivity.
Yilwatda stressed that the government is not ignoring the current struggles, adding that intervention programmes are being implemented to cushion the impact on workers and vulnerable groups.
He further maintained that the administration’s economic direction is focused on restoring confidence, attracting investment, and laying a stronger foundation for future growth.
The APC leadership used the occasion to call for patience and cooperation from workers, urging them to remain hopeful as the government continues to roll out its plans.
Observers say the statement appears to be part of a broader effort to manage public expectations as Nigerians continue to grapple with rising living costs.
As the country marks Workers’ Day, attention remains fixed on how quickly these promises will translate into tangible improvements for millions of workers navigating the current economic climate.
