Rape Case: Prosecutors Demand Seven-Year Jail Term for Norway Princess’ Son

By Wellington Jopelo
Prosecutors in Norway have asked a court to sentence Marius Borg Hoiby, the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, to seven years and seven months in prison over multiple offences, including rape.
Hoiby, 29, is currently on trial facing about 40 charges, with a possible maximum sentence of 16 years if convicted. The case has drawn global attention due to his connection to the Norwegian royal family.
During court proceedings, prosecutors argued that the alleged crimes involved four women and stressed the lasting impact such offences can have on victims.
Hoiby has admitted to some lesser offences but denied the rape allegations. Prosecutors claimed the incidents occurred while the victims were unable to resist.
The case began after his arrest in August 2024 over an alleged assault, which later led to further investigations uncovering additional accusations.
Authorities said some of the alleged victims were unaware of the incidents until they were contacted during the investigation.
The trial is nearing its conclusion, with lawyers for both sides expected to present final arguments before the court.
A verdict is expected in the coming weeks or months as the court reviews all evidence presented.
