Nollywood Stars Gather In Ogun For Ogogo’s Fidau Prayer

Nollywood actors, family members, friends and admirers of late veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, gathered in Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, August 31, 2026, for his eighth-day Fidau prayer.

The Islamic prayer was organised by the actor’s family as part of the activities marking his burial rites, following his death on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66. He was buried in Ilaro the same day in accordance with Islamic tradition.

The gathering brought together colleagues from the Nigerian film industry, alongside relatives, friends, fans and other well-wishers who came to honour the actor and pray for the peaceful repose of his soul.

Ogogo’s colleagues turned out in numbers, reflecting the strong relationships he built during his more than four decades in the entertainment industry.

The late actor was born and raised in Ilaro, Ogun State, making the town particularly significant to his family, career and legacy. His burial also attracted members of the entertainment industry and prominent personalities who came to pay their final respects.

The eighth-day Fidau was one of the remaining programmes announced by the family following his burial. Veteran actor Jide Kosoko, speaking on behalf of the family, had called on friends, colleagues, fans and well-wishers to continue supporting the family during the mourning period.

The prayer provided an opportunity for those close to Ogogo to come together away from the film set and remember a man whose career left a strong mark on Yoruba-language cinema.

Ogogo was known not only as an actor but also as a producer, filmmaker and screenwriter, with a career spanning more than four decades. Some of the productions associated with him include Owo Blow, Omo Ghetto and Aníkúlápó.

His death had earlier generated widespread reactions across the Nigerian entertainment industry, particularly after his family disclosed that he had been battling stage-four cancer and appealed for assistance with his treatment.

The Fidau gathering therefore became another emotional moment for his colleagues and loved ones as they continued to mourn one of Yoruba cinema’s recognisable figures.

The family has also announced an Artists’ Day to be held 40 days after his burial at Pavilion Hall, Ilaro, where actors, musicians, comedians, singers and other entertainers are expected to celebrate Ogogo’s life and professional legacy. The programme will be coordinated by the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN).

The Artists’ Day will be separate from the religious Fidau prayers and is expected to focus more on performances, tributes and celebration of Ogogo’s contribution to the entertainment industry.

For his family, colleagues and fans, the gathering in Ilaro was another opportunity to remember Taiwo Hassan beyond his roles on screen and to pray for his peaceful repose.
