Gunmen Kill Two, Abduct Woman In Kano Community

Two residents have been killed and a woman abducted after gunmen attacked Rantan community in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State, throwing the rural community into panic.

The attack reportedly occurred on Sunday night, August 30, 2026, as armed men invaded the community under the cover of darkness and opened fire on residents.

According to local accounts, the attackers killed two people during the assault before abducting a woman who was reportedly the wife of one of the deceased victims.

The incident was confirmed by the village head of Rantan, Alhaji Muhammad Adamu, who disclosed that the community had come under the attack amid growing security concerns in the area.

The latest incident occurred only hours after another deadly attack was reported in neighbouring Chiromawa community in Garun Malam Local Government Area, where gunmen reportedly killed three residents, injured others and abducted a traditional title holder.

The attacks have raised fresh concerns over the security situation in rural communities around Kano, particularly areas where residents depend largely on farming and have limited access to security personnel.

The attackers were reportedly armed and operated under the cover of darkness, making it difficult for residents to prevent the assault or immediately identify the perpetrators.

The latest attack has also heightened fears among residents who are now worried that similar incidents could spread to other communities in the area.

Local authorities and security personnel are expected to intensify efforts to identify the attackers, rescue the abducted woman and prevent further attacks on vulnerable communities.

The motive behind the Rantan attack has not been officially established, while the identity and whereabouts of the abductors remain unknown.
