Just In: Police Boost Security at Lagos Schools, Churches

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, says the command has stepped up security across schools, worship centres, and other busy locations to prevent any security threats.

Jimoh gave the update on Monday at the command headquarters in Ikeja while speaking with journalists. He assured residents that Lagos remains safe and that the increased deployment will continue throughout the ember months and into the New Year.

“We want everyone to know that Lagos is safe. We have made extra deployments to schools, churches, mosques and other crowded places to protect residents. This operation will continue into the New Year to ensure the safety of all Lagosian,” he said. He also noted that more police tactical teams were being deployed across local government areas.

The new measures come as other states like Kwara, Kebbi and Niger have reported recent cases of abductions and security breaches.

Jimoh revealed that the new trend of stolen vehicles in Lagos were taken by newly hired drivers and car wash workers. The police have recovered several vehicles, including a Toyota Hilux, Range Rover SUV, Land Cruiser, Lexus GX460, Honda CR-V, and two Toyota Corollas. A Bajaj Boxer motorcycle used during a robbery attempt was also seized.

Weapons recovered from suspects include locally made pistols, a cut-to-size shotgun, a fabricated firearm, cartridges, and a machete. Jimoh said these recoveries came from intensified patrols and raids across the state. He added that 56 suspects linked to different crimes had been arrested.

He assured residents that the police would maintain the security push into the New Year.
