Atiku Alleges Private Bank Details Were Compromised After Mystery Deposit
Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has raised concerns over a suspicious payment into one of his private bank accounts, saying the transaction may point to a serious breach of his confidential banking information.
Atiku said the money was transferred by an unknown individual with the narration, “Contribution Electioneering Campaign,” stressing that neither he nor his campaign authorised, requested or had any prior knowledge of the payment.
The former vice president, through his spokesman, Phrank Shaibu, explained that the account involved is a strictly private one whose details are not available to the public, raising questions about how an unknown person obtained the information.
Atiku described the incident as disturbing, warning that if the confidential banking details of a former vice president and presidential candidate could be accessed, the financial privacy of ordinary Nigerians could also be under threat.
He also expressed fears that the account details may have been obtained through people with privileged access, saying such a development, if confirmed, would amount to a serious abuse of power with grave security implications.
According to the statement, exposing private banking information could leave account holders vulnerable to kidnappers, terrorists, fraudsters, bandits and other criminal elements who may seek to exploit such sensitive data.
Atiku said security agencies and the Nigerian public had been alerted to the development, describing it as one of several suspicious incidents occurring as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
Despite the incident, the ADC presidential candidate insisted he remains focused on his campaign and would not be distracted, maintaining that his priority is to continue presenting what he described as practical solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.
