Anthony Joshua Remembers Friends Lost in Crash

Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has recounted the tragic deaths of two of his close friends in a car crash on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

Joshua spoke about the incident in an emotional conversation with former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, shared in a YouTube video posted on Wednesday. The discussion took place while Joshua was recovering from injuries sustained in the accident, which occurred on December 29, 2025.

The crash claimed the lives of Joshua’s friends, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. Joshua was pulled from the wreckage and rushed to Duchess International Hospital, where he received medical treatment for injuries to his head and torso.

Footage from the video showed Joshua lying in a hospital treatment room as he described the accident and the loss of his friends. He admitted that the reality of their deaths had not fully registered with him.

Following his discharge from the hospital, Joshua returned to the United Kingdom. During the conversation, he confirmed to Usman that one friend had been seated in the front of the vehicle while the other was behind him, and that both had died.

Joshua described the tragedy as life-changing, adding that it had given him perspective on the value of life and the attention people pay to those in the public eye. Usman acknowledged the emotional weight of the moment and expressed relief that Joshua had survived.

PUNCH Online reported that Joshua later broke his silence on social media, posting a photograph of himself with the families of the deceased and captioning it, “My Brother’s Keeper.”

The image showed Joshua standing in solidarity with the bereaved families, offering support during a moment of grief and loss.
