Adeleke Retains Osun Governorship Seat After Defeating APC Candidate
Osun State Governor, Ademola Nurudeen-Jackson Adeleke, has been declared the winner of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, securing another term in office.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared Adeleke winner after he polled 511,067 votes and won in 19 of the 30 local government areas in the state.
The State Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, announced the final result at about 7:24 a.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, defeated his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who polled 444,815 votes and won in 11 local government areas.
According to the result announced by INEC, 1,010,684 voters were accredited, while 985,079 votes were recorded as valid votes. A total of 20,721 votes were rejected, bringing the total number of votes cast to 1,005,800.
The African Democratic Congress, ADC, candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes, while other political parties shared the remaining votes.
Adeleke won in several local government areas, including Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo and Osogbo.
Oyebamiji, however, secured victories in Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun and Obokun, among other areas won by the APC.
After the results were announced and signed by party agents, Professor Ogunwole formally returned Adeleke as the winner of the governorship election.
The Returning Officer declared that Adeleke had satisfied the requirements of the law and was therefore elected to serve another term as Governor of Osun State.
