Sanwo-Olu Confident Lagos Will Deliver World-Class 2026 CAF Awards
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has assured that the state is fully prepared to host the 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards, promising an event that will showcase Africa’s football excellence while highlighting Lagos as one of the continent’s leading destinations for sports and entertainment.
The governor said the selection of Lagos to stage the prestigious ceremony reflects growing international confidence in the state’s ability to successfully organise major global events. He described the hosting rights as a significant achievement for both Lagos and Nigeria.
Sanwo-Olu noted that preparations are already underway to ensure visitors, football officials, players and guests enjoy a memorable experience throughout the event. According to him, the state government is working closely with CAF and other stakeholders to deliver a ceremony that meets international standards.
He explained that beyond celebrating Africa’s best footballers, coaches and teams, the event will provide another opportunity to promote Lagos’ tourism, hospitality and investment potential before a global audience.
The governor also expressed confidence that the awards would create economic opportunities for businesses in the hospitality, transportation, entertainment and tourism sectors, as thousands of visitors are expected to attend the ceremony.
Sanwo-Olu added that the state has continued to invest heavily in infrastructure, security and event management, making Lagos the preferred destination for major sporting and entertainment events on the continent.
He called on Nigerians to support the hosting of the awards, describing it as a chance to strengthen the country’s reputation as a capable organiser of international competitions and ceremonies.
The 2026 CAF Awards will bring together Africa’s biggest football stars, administrators and dignitaries to honour outstanding performances over the past year, with Lagos expected to take centre stage as the continent celebrates its finest talents.
