Tinubu Scraps 25-Year-Old Federal Property Committee, Hands Oversight to AGF
President Bola Tinubu has dissolved the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties, ending the operations of a body that has managed the sale, lease and privatisation of federal government landed assets for about 25 years.
The Presidency said the committee’s continued existence was no longer necessary, explaining that its responsibilities had become duplicated by other government institutions, creating administrative overlaps and legal disputes across the country.
Following the dissolution, President Tinubu directed that all matters relating to federal government property sales, leases and alienation should now be handled by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.
The committee was established in 2000 during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to supervise the disposal and management of federal government properties across Nigeria.
The Presidency also instructed former members and officials of the dissolved committee to stop presenting themselves as representatives of the Federal Government, stressing that the committee has ceased to exist.
Officials said the decision forms part of the Tinubu administration’s ongoing efforts to streamline government operations, eliminate overlapping functions and improve transparency in the management of public assets.
The government expressed confidence that placing the responsibility under the Office of the Attorney-General would ensure better coordination, legal oversight and accountability in future transactions involving federal government properties.
