Drama as Fubara Faces APC Screening Panel Amid Rising Rivers Political Tension

By Ranti Thomas
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has once again found himself at the centre of political drama after appearing before the All Progressives Congress (APC) screening panel in Abuja, an exercise already generating intense behind-the-scenes speculation.
The screening, held as part of preparations for the 2027 elections, reportedly saw Fubara spend a very short time before the committee compared to other governors, a detail that immediately sparked political interpretations among party insiders.
Sources say the governor arrived at the venue at the Plateau State Governors’ Lodge and was later seen leaving the session without addressing journalists, simply declining to comment on what transpired.
Unlike other incumbents screened earlier, Fubara’s appearance was described as unusually brief, fuelling further curiosity about his standing within the party’s internal arrangements.
Inside the APC, officials have been careful in their public statements, insisting that no final report has been issued and that all governors will be treated based on the committee’s final review.
Party leaders also maintained that governors who could not appear earlier were given flexibility due to official responsibilities, stressing that the process remains ongoing and not concluded.
However, political observers say the situation in Rivers State gives the exercise a deeper meaning, especially given the long-standing rivalry and shifting alliances within the state’s political structure.
The governor’s brief appearance, silence afterward, and the lack of an immediate official verdict have all added to growing suspense over his political direction ahead of 2027.
As the APC awaits the screening committee’s final report, attention remains fixed on how Fubara’s political future within the party will eventually be defined in what is shaping up to be a highly sensitive process.
