Court Approves Medical Care for El-Rufai While in Detention

Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai has secured court approval to receive medical treatment while in custody as his corruption case continues.
The ruling came after his lawyers appealed to the court, arguing that the former governor needed proper medical attention during detention.
During proceedings, the court reportedly considered the request on humanitarian grounds and granted permission for treatment under official supervision.
The case against El-Rufai is being handled by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, which is prosecuting him over alleged corruption and money laundering-related offences.
Although the court approved access to healthcare, the ruling does not affect the main trial, which is still ongoing.
The development comes days after the former governor faced setbacks in his attempts to secure bail, with prosecutors insisting that investigations and legal proceedings must continue without interference.
Legal analysts say the latest decision reflects the court’s effort to balance detention procedures with the constitutional right of defendants to receive medical care.
Supporters of the former governor welcomed the ruling, describing it as necessary, while critics maintain that the case should proceed without unnecessary delays.
The matter has continued to attract national attention due to El-Rufai’s political influence and outspoken role in Nigerian politics over the years.
As the trial moves forward, attention is now shifting to the next court hearing and whether fresh legal applications could further shape the direction of the case.
