Faleke’s move signals early push for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid

Fresh momentum is building within the All Progressives Congress as steps toward the 2027 presidential election begin to unfold around President Bola Tinubu’s expected second-term ambition.
The latest development saw Ikeja Federal Constituency lawmaker, James Faleke, step forward to obtain the party’s Expression of Interest and Nomination forms on behalf of the President, effectively kickstarting the process.
The forms were issued in Abuja by the APC National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu, shortly after the party opened its nomination process. Faleke, who is closely aligned with Tinubu, also completed the payment for the forms.
This action is widely seen as a formal indication that preparations for the President’s re-election bid are underway, with strong backing already visible within key party structures.
At the same time, the Independent National Electoral Commission has released a detailed timetable guiding the conduct of the 2027 general elections.
INEC fixed January 16, 2027, for presidential and National Assembly elections, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly polls will follow on February 6, 2027.
The commission also scheduled party primaries from April 23 to May 30, 2026, providing a window for political parties to select candidates and settle internal disputes.
Campaigns for presidential and National Assembly elections are set to begin on August 19, 2026, while governorship and state assembly campaigns will start on September 9, 2026.
As these timelines draw closer, early political alignments and strategic moves such as Faleke’s are beginning to shape the landscape ahead of the nationwide contest.
