Falcons Criticise Repeated WAFCON Postponements

Players of Nigeria’s women national football team have expressed frustration over the repeated postponement of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Several members of the team said the continued delays show that women’s football on the continent is not being treated with the level of respect it deserves.
The tournament was initially expected to take place earlier but has now been moved again, creating uncertainty for teams preparing for the competition.
Members of the Super Falcons said the constant changes make it difficult for players and coaches to plan their schedules properly.
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade said African women’s football deserves better organisation and commitment from those responsible for the tournament.
She noted that the players work hard throughout the year and expect competitions to be properly planned.
Midfielder Christy Ucheibe also criticised the situation, saying the repeated postponements are discouraging for players across the continent.
Another team member, Ashleigh Plumptre, said such disruptions rarely happen in major men’s competitions.
She explained that women’s teams deserve the same level of seriousness and professionalism in organising tournaments.
Forward Rinsola Babajide also reacted strongly, describing the situation as disappointing for many players.
According to the players, the competition is important for showcasing talent and growing women’s football in Africa.
They added that frequent changes to the tournament schedule affect preparation and momentum for teams.
Despite the frustration, the Super Falcons say they will remain focused and continue preparing whenever the tournament finally takes place.
