President Bola Tinubu has approved a series of fresh appointments and tenure renewals across key federal education institutions, in a move aimed at strengthening leadership and ongoing reforms in the sector.
According to a statement on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the changes cut across the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the National Library of Nigeria, and a federal polytechnic.
Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been appointed Chairman of the Governing Board of NECO, while Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi remains the Registrar of the examination body.
For the NBTE, Prof. Babatunde Salako was named Chairman of the governing board, alongside the earlier renewal of Prof. Idris Bugaje’s appointment as Executive Secretary for a second and final five-year term.
In the tertiary education sector, Dr Bongfa Binfa has been appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State, for a single five-year term. He takes over from Dr Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended in March 2026. Until his appointment, Binfa served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny.
Tinubu also renewed the tenure of Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria for another five years, extending her leadership over ongoing digital transformation efforts and infrastructure development, including the National Library headquarters project in Abuja.
The presidency said the appointments are expected to deepen reforms and improve efficiency across the affected institutions, particularly in examinations, technical education, and national knowledge management systems.
