Super Eagles Hold Jordan to Hard-Fought 2-2 Draw

The Super Eagles ended their two-match friendly series in Antalya, Turkey, with a 2-2 draw against Jordan on Wednesday.

Although Nigeria is not part of the 2026 World Cup in North America, many fans were eager to see new players integrate into the squad. However, the quality of play against Jordan left some supporters disappointed.

Jordan took the initiative early, winning two successive corners in the opening minutes, signaling their intent. Their pressure paid off in the 15th minute when Mousa Tamari converted a pass from Al-Rawabdeh to put Jordan ahead.

Nigeria thought they had equalized six minutes later when Raphael Onyedika finished a Moses Simon cut-back, but the effort was controversially ruled out. The Super Eagles eventually drew level in the 30th minute. Captain Moses Simon, marking his 97th appearance, scored after Ademola Lookman’s initial shot was blocked, calmly slotting a left-footed finish.

Before halftime, Nigeria took the lead. Bright Osayi-Samuel’s precise cross found Emmanuel Fernandez on his full debut, who controlled the ball and struck a composed left-footed goal to make it 2-1.

The second half became more physical. In the 57th minute, goalkeeper Francis Uzoho was replaced by Adebayo Adeleye after an injury. Coach Eric Chelle brought in veterans Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi to strengthen the midfield, with Iwobi earning his 98th cap.

Jordan pushed hard for an equalizer and succeeded in the 77th minute, leveling the score at 2-2. Nigeria also gave Philip Otele his senior debut, while Samuel Chukwueze replaced Simon late in the game. Tensions flared in the closing stages, culminating in a straight red card for Alex Iwobi.

The friendly series offered a mix of positives and lessons as the Super Eagles prepare for future competitive fixtures, highlighting emerging talents and areas needing improvement.
