Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) successfully defended their UEFA Champions League crown after defeating Arsenal in a dramatic final in Budapest. The match ended 1-1 after regulation and extra time before PSG prevailed in a penalty shootout.
Arsenal made a dream start when Kai Havertz put the Premier League champions ahead inside the opening minutes, raising hopes of a first-ever Champions League title for the North London club.
PSG, however, fought back and found an equaliser in the second half through Ousmane Dembele, who converted from the penalty spot to level the contest.
Despite chances for both sides, neither team could find a winning goal in regulation or extra time, forcing the final to be decided by penalties.
The French champions held their nerve in the shootout to secure victory and become back-to-back European champions, adding another historic chapter to the club’s growing success under coach Luis Enrique.
For Arsenal, the defeat was a heartbreaking end to an otherwise remarkable season that saw Mikel Arteta’s side win the Premier League and reach the Champions League final for the first time in two decades.
The victory further cements PSG’s place among Europe’s elite clubs, while Arsenal will now turn their attention to building on this season’s progress and ending their wait for European glory.
