Police Detain Osun SSG, Recover Cash, Electoral Materials During Raid
The Osun State Police Command has taken the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, and five other individuals into custody following a security operation at his residence in Osogbo. The action came after intelligence reportedly linked the location to a suspect wanted by the police.
Police said the operation led to the arrest of a man said to be on the command’s watchlist over alleged criminal offences. Officers also recovered ₦4.81 million in cash, two Permanent Voter Cards, a voter register, a laptop, a photocopier and a printer during the search.
According to the command, investigators are examining the recovered items to determine whether they are connected to any electoral or criminal activities ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
The police maintained that the raid was based on credible intelligence and formed part of ongoing efforts to apprehend individuals linked to serious crimes, insisting that no one is above the law regardless of political position.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Government criticised the operation, describing it as an unlawful invasion of the SSG’s residence and alleging that security operatives carried out the raid without following due process.
Authorities said investigations are continuing and that all those detained would be questioned as detectives work to establish the ownership and intended use of the items recovered during the operation.
