INEC Urges Nigerians to Register Before Voter Registration Ends Sunday
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reminded eligible Nigerians that the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will officially end on Sunday, July 26, urging those yet to register to do so before the deadline.
The electoral body said no extension has been announced for the nationwide exercise and advised prospective voters not to wait until the last minute to complete their registration. It stressed that voter registration is essential for participation in the 2027 general elections.
INEC called on first-time voters, those seeking transfers, replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and citizens updating their personal information to take advantage of the remaining hours of the exercise.
The commission said registration is taking place at its designated offices across the country, while eligible Nigerians who started the process online should visit the nearest registration centre to complete their biometric capture before the deadline.
INEC noted that obtaining a voter card remains one of the most important civic responsibilities, as it gives citizens the opportunity to elect leaders and shape the country’s democratic process.
The commission also urged Nigerians to ignore rumours of a possible extension, insisting that the registration window will close on Sunday as scheduled unless officially announced otherwise.
The voter registration exercise, which has been ongoing nationwide, has attracted thousands of new registrants, especially young Nigerians preparing to participate in future elections.
INEC encouraged all eligible citizens who are yet to register to visit the nearest registration centre before the close of business on Sunday to avoid missing the opportunity to be included in the national voters’ register.
