Fear and uncertainty gripped residents of Ibadan on Wednesday after armed kidnappers reportedly abducted a close family member of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, along with her two children during a morning outing.
The victims were identified as Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her twin sons, Peter and Paul. Reports indicate that the trio were seized by gunmen while travelling through the Challenge area of Ibadan, one of the busiest parts of the Oyo State capital.
According to information made available by family sources, the attackers intercepted their vehicle and forcefully took the victims away to an unknown destination before escaping from the scene.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community and added to growing concerns over the increasing number of kidnapping cases being recorded across parts of Oyo State and other regions of the country.
Family members described the development as heartbreaking, noting that Mrs. John-Paul had recently retired from active service and was preparing for a new phase of life with her family. They appealed to the abductors to release the victims unharmed and urged security agencies to intensify rescue efforts.
The abduction comes at a time when residents of Oyo State are still expressing concern over a series of security incidents, including attacks on schools, communities and travellers along major roads.
Security operatives have reportedly launched investigations into the latest kidnapping, with efforts underway to track the movement of the suspects and secure the safe return of the victims.
The incident has also renewed calls for stronger security measures in urban and rural areas, as many residents fear that criminal groups are becoming increasingly bold in their operations.
Community leaders and concerned citizens have urged authorities to strengthen intelligence gathering and increase security patrols to curb the growing threat posed by kidnappers and other criminal elements.
As of the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of the victims remained unknown, while family members continued to hope for positive news from security agencies handling the case.
The latest abduction highlights the continuing security challenges facing many parts of Nigeria, where kidnappings for ransom have become a major concern for families, businesses and communities.
