Drug Addiction Counsellor Jailed Over Role In Matthew Perry’s Overdose Death Case

A licensed drug addiction counsellor, Erik Fleming, has been sentenced to two years in prison for his role in the chain of events that led to the death of Hollywood actor Matthew Perry, best known for playing Chandler Bing in the hit sitcom Friends.
Court records show that Fleming acted as an intermediary in the illegal supply of ketamine that eventually reached Perry in the days leading up to his death in October 2023.
Matthew Perry, a Canadian-American actor born in 1969, rose to global fame through Friends, which ran from 1994 to 2004. He had long been open about his struggles with addiction and mental health challenges throughout and after his acting career.
Authorities said Perry died on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54, after being found unresponsive in a hot tub at his home in Los Angeles. His death was later attributed to the acute effects of ketamine, which caused him to lose consciousness before he drowned.
Investigations revealed that Fleming helped connect Perry’s circle to a larger drug supply network, including a dealer known in court as the “Ketamine Queen,” and arranged the transfer of multiple vials of the substance through Perry’s personal assistant.
Prosecutors described Fleming’s role as part of a wider illegal distribution chain involving several individuals, including medical professionals and drug suppliers. He later admitted guilt and cooperated with investigators, which influenced his final sentence.
During sentencing, the court heard that Fleming expressed remorse for his actions, acknowledging that his involvement contributed to the tragic outcome. He was also ordered to serve additional years under supervised release after completing his prison term.
The case is part of a broader investigation that has already led to multiple convictions, highlighting how Perry’s death was linked to a network of illegal drug distribution despite his documented efforts to manage long-term addiction issues.
Perry’s passing shocked fans worldwide, with tributes pouring in from colleagues and cast members of Friends, who described him as a beloved actor and friend whose legacy continues to influence global entertainment.
