Bandits Kidnap Zamfara Council Chairman, Kill Four Security Operatives
Armed bandits have abducted the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Nura Abdullahi, after launching a deadly overnight attack on his residence that left four members of his security team dead. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday and has triggered fresh concerns over the worsening security situation in the state.
The attackers reportedly stormed the chairman’s home in large numbers, opening fire on security personnel before whisking him away to an unknown location. Several others sustained injuries during the assault, while panic spread across the community as residents fled for safety.
Military authorities said troops responding to the attack engaged the gunmen in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to retreat into nearby forests. During the operation, five members of the chairman’s family who had also been taken by the attackers were rescued.
The Nigerian Army said efforts have been intensified to locate and rescue the abducted council chairman, with troops continuing search operations across the affected area and surrounding forests.
Security agencies have also deployed additional personnel to strengthen surveillance and prevent further attacks in Bungudu and neighbouring communities.
The latest incident adds to the growing wave of kidnappings and violent attacks that have continued to plague parts of Zamfara State despite ongoing military operations against armed groups.
Residents have appealed to the Federal Government and security agencies to increase their presence in vulnerable communities and take stronger action to end the recurring attacks.
Authorities have assured the public that every effort is being made to secure the safe release of the abducted chairman and bring those responsible for the attack to justice.
