Badejo-Okusanya Emerges Front-Runner In NBA Presidential Election
Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, has taken an early lead in the ongoing 2026 Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) presidential election, according to preliminary results released from the association’s electronic voting portal.
As of 11:33 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026, Badejo-Okusanya had secured 4,860 votes, representing 41.77 per cent of the ballots counted to top the race for the NBA presidency.
Her closest challenger, Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe (SAN), polled 3,851 votes (33.10 per cent), while Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro (SAN) followed with 2,924 votes, representing 25.13 per cent of the votes cast at the time.
The election is being conducted electronically, with thousands of lawyers across Nigeria voting to choose the next president of the Nigerian Bar Association. Although Badejo-Okusanya maintained an early advantage, officials stressed that the results remained provisional as voting and collation continued.
As voting progressed later in the day, the senior advocate widened her lead. By about 4:14 p.m., she had recorded 9,185 votes, accounting for approximately 45.3 per cent of the votes cast, while Akangbe polled 6,318 votes and Akinboro secured 4,772 votes. At that stage, 20,035 lawyers, representing 24.38 per cent of the 82,164 registered voters, had participated in the election.
The election comes after an earlier delay caused by a reported cyberattack on the NBA’s electronic voting platform, which temporarily disrupted the commencement of voting before the process resumed.
The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association is expected to announce the final official results after all eligible votes have been counted and verified.
