Just In: FG Set to Reveal Terrorism Financiers

The Federal Government says it is close to exposing the people and networks behind terrorism financing in Nigeria.
According to the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, the identities of those backing violent groups will soon be made public as part of new security decisions already underway.
Bwala explained that the administration has moved into a tougher phase in its security strategy and is now focusing on the financial and logistical systems that keep terror groups active. He said Nigerians should expect major revelations as the government tightens its counter-terrorism operations.
He noted that terrorism has grown into a worldwide problem, with extremist groups shifting across regions and forming new links beyond national borders. Because of this, he said, global cooperation is now unavoidable, as powerful nations also see Nigeria’s stability as important to international security.
Bwala added that extremist activities, once centred in other regions, have slowly moved toward the Sahel, creating new threats that require stronger teamwork among neighbouring countries and international partners.
He also referenced President Tinubu’s firm stance against relying on private military contractors on the continent. Tinubu has warned that bringing in such groups can weaken the authority of African governments and make conflicts even harder to resolve.
Speaking at a recent high-level meeting on peace and security, Tinubu represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima stressed that African nations must lead their own security operations. He argued that foreign private forces operate with little transparency and often disrupt established command structures.
Tinubu maintained that Africa’s security challenges must be addressed through coordinated, government-driven efforts, a position consistent with Nigeria’s long support for regional peace missions under ECOWAS and the African Union.
