Southern governors and top traditional rulers met in Ogun State on Wednesday, holding a major regional security and development meeting that ended with a united position on key national issues, including firm support for President Bola Tinubu.
In the communique released after the meeting, the leaders said Tinubu has shown commitment to stabilising the economy, improving governance, and pushing major infrastructure projects. They also restated their long-held belief that the South should produce Nigeria’s president in the interest of fairness and national balance.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who shared updates on his X handle, said the forum unanimously passed a vote of confidence in President Tinubu and reaffirmed the South’s commitment to a stronger and safer region.
According to Sanwo-Olu, the leaders agreed on several steps to boost security, including creating a zonal security fund, improving intelligence sharing, and giving traditional rulers a more formal role in local security operations. Strengthening community security outfits and addressing threats from illegal mining and land disputes were also part of the resolutions.
The governor added that the forum expressed sympathy over recent national security incidents and pledged continued cooperation to support peace efforts across the country.
The leaders assured residents that the South remains united and focused on peace, security, and development.
