Police Shift Focus to Davido in Osun Convoy Attack

The attack on the convoy of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has taken a new turn, with the police saying popular singer David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, was the alleged target rather than the governor.
Police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi said preliminary findings linked the incident to an alleged attempt by Adebayo Taoreed, also known as Small Rugged, to gain access to Davido during Governor Adeleke’s visit to the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo. The police said Davido’s security personnel resisted the attempt, after which the situation reportedly escalated.
The police said other suspected gang members later became involved, with the disturbance disrupting the movement of the governor’s convoy.

The incident, which initially appeared to be a direct attack on Governor Adeleke, has therefore taken on a different dimension following the police explanation that Davido was the alleged target.
The violence reportedly continued beyond the immediate scene, with a 60-year-old man, Tajudeen Yusuf, said to have been shot during the unrest. He was taken to hospital but was later confirmed dead, according to reports on the police account of the incident.
The development has now shifted public attention from a possible political attack on the governor to the circumstances surrounding Davido’s presence in Osogbo and the alleged confrontation that preceded the shooting.
Police said investigations were continuing as operatives work to identify and arrest everyone connected to the incident.
