DHQ Verifies Coup Plot, Indicted Officers to Stand Trial

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed that investigations into alleged misconduct by some military officers uncovered claims of a plot to overthrow the government. The findings come after a thorough review of the conduct of 16 officers arrested in October 2025 for breaches of service regulations and acts of indiscipline.
According to the DHQ, the officers whose ranks ranged from Captain to Brigadier General were suspected of holding secret meetings with the intention of toppling the government. The earlier cancellation of the October 1 Independence Day parade had also been linked to the alleged plot.
Reacting to the latest developments, the new Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said a comprehensive investigation was conducted following established military procedures. The results identified a number of officers with credible allegations of plotting against the government. The investigation report has since been forwarded to the appropriate superior authority.
“The comprehensive investigation process, conducted in accordance with established military procedures, has carefully examined all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel,” the statement read.
Those found culpable will be formally arraigned before military judicial panels to face trial under the Armed Forces Act and other applicable service regulations. Uba stressed that the process is purely disciplinary, aimed at ensuring accountability, fairness, and upholding the principles of due process.
“The measures being taken are part of institutional mechanisms to preserve order, discipline, and operational effectiveness within the ranks,” Uba said. “The Armed Forces remain resolute in maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, loyalty, and respect for constitutional authority.”
The DHQ assured the public that all actions are being carried out within the legal framework and professional standards of the Armed Forces, underscoring the military’s commitment to upholding discipline while protecting national stability.
