The Abia State Government has approved the appointment of Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel as the new head coach of Enyimba International Football Club, Aba.
The decision was announced on Monday by the State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, who said the move is part of Governor Alex Otti’s plan to rebuild the club and restore its former glory.
Enyimba, Nigeria’s most successful football club and a major sporting symbol of Abia State, has struggled to maintain its traditional high standards in recent times. The state government said it is now determined to reposition the club as a dominant force in Nigerian and African football.
In a statement, Prince Kanu said the Otti administration is focused on returning Enyimba to the top while also improving professionalism, sustainability, and strong corporate governance within the club.
“The appointment of Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel is part of our strategic efforts to strengthen the technical direction of the club, boost its competitive edge, and lay a solid foundation for long-term success,” he said.
Coach Deutsch is an experienced football tactician with CAF A, B, and C coaching licences. He has previously worked as a technical adviser and head coach with top clubs in Nigeria and Cameroon, where he recorded impressive results.
His achievements include winning the Nigeria National League (NNL) Best Coach Award in 2025.
Governor Otti expressed confidence that the new coach’s experience, technical skill, and professional discipline will play a key role in rebuilding Enyimba and returning the club to its rightful place among Africa’s football giants.
