Makinde’s Inner Circle Faces Fresh Shake-Up as Chief of Staff Segun Ogunwuyi Resigns
The administration of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has recorded another high-profile departure following the resignation of his Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi, on Monday, October 12, 2026.
Ogunwuyi’s resignation took effect immediately, according to a letter dated October 12 and addressed to the governor. His exit adds to the growing list of political appointees who have left the administration in recent months, although he did not disclose any specific reason for his decision.
In the letter, Ogunwuyi expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve the government and people of Oyo State, describing his time in office as an honour. He also praised the administration’s efforts towards the development and prosperity of the state.
“Serving the Government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour,” he stated, adding that he remained proud of the achievements recorded by the administration.
The former Chief of Staff also expressed confidence in the continued progress of Oyo State and reaffirmed his loyalty to the state and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Ogunwuyi’s departure is significant given his position at the centre of the governor’s administration, where the Chief of Staff plays a key role in coordinating official activities and facilitating communication between the governor and other government officials.
Before his appointment to the role, Ogunwuyi served in both the Oyo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives. He represented Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South and Oriire Federal Constituency at the National Assembly before joining Makinde’s administration.
His resignation comes amid the departure of several aides from the governor’s government over the past two months. However, no official explanation has been provided linking the exits, and Ogunwuyi did not indicate that his decision was connected to the departures of other appointees.
The development also comes as political attention increasingly turns towards the 2027 general elections and Makinde’s reported presidential ambition. Nevertheless, Ogunwuyi’s resignation letter did not mention the election or any political disagreement as a reason for leaving office.
For now, the circumstances surrounding his decision remain unclear. His expression of gratitude and continued loyalty to Oyo State in the resignation letter offered no indication of an open dispute with the governor.
Ogunwuyi’s exit leaves a key position in Makinde’s administration vacant, with attention expected to turn to the governor’s next move and whether further changes will occur within his political and administrative team.
Neither the resignation letter nor the information publicly available at the time of reporting established a specific reason for his departure.
