ICPC Charges El-Rufai, Bail Application Date Set

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has arraigned former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, before a Federal High Court in Kaduna.
The arraignment came after he spent 38 days in detention over allegations linked to corruption.
El-Rufai was brought before Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa on a 10-count charge involving alleged money laundering and unlawful possession of public property.
After the court session, March 31, 2026, was fixed to hear all pending applications, including his bail request.
His lawyer, Ubong Akpan, said most of the charges were related to transactions involving his client’s domiciliary account.
He also noted that out of the 10 charges, El-Rufai was directly linked to only one count.
The defence raised objections during the proceedings, arguing that the court should not continue because of a pending issue involving the judge.
However, the court went ahead with the arraignment despite the objection raised by the defence team.
Akpan explained that no bail application was made during the session, adding that it would be heard on the next adjourned date.
The ICPC legal team declined to comment after the proceedings, while the case has now been adjourned to March 31 for further hearing.
