Another Building Collapses; one Dead, 8 Alive In Lagos

Not fewer than one person has died and eight others have been rescued after a three-storey building collapsed in Ajegunle, Apapa, Lagos.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) on Thursday confirmed that one adult male lost his life while eight people were rescued from the debris. This was disclosed by Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA.
LASEMA’s response team said they arrived at the scene around 11:09 a.m. to find the structure completely collapsed, with several workers trapped beneath the rubble.

“Following distress alerts at 11:09 a.m., LASEMA activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans from Agbowa and Alausa.
“Upon arrival of the agency’s response teams at 11:09 a.m., it was discovered that a three-storey building with a penthouse collapsed on Thursday at No. 28, Baale Alayabiagba Street, Alayabiagba community, Ajegunle, Apapa area of Lagos.
According to residents, the building was undergoing manual demolition when it suddenly gave way, trapping several workers at the site.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the building collapse has not yet been determined.
