ASUU Threatens Nationwide Strike Over Unpaid Salaries, Unfulfilled Agreement

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has threatened to embark on a nationwide strike over the Federal Government’s failure to pay outstanding salaries and implement agreements reached with the union.

The warning has raised fresh concerns about another disruption to academic activities in Nigerian public universities, coming amid continued disagreements over the welfare of university lecturers and the government’s commitments to the sector.

ASUU has repeatedly demanded the payment of withheld salaries and other entitlements owed to lecturers following previous industrial disputes. The union has also insisted that government must honour agreements reached to improve the conditions of service and strengthen public universities.
