Pete Edochie Warns Men Against Depending on Their Wives for Food

Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has advised married men to avoid becoming dependent on their wives for their daily meals, saying such a situation could expose them to humiliation and emotional pressure.

The 79-year-old actor shared the advice while speaking on the interview programme Curiosity Made Me Ask, hosted by content creator Isbae U.

Edochie based his comments on his own experience of marriage, saying he has been married for 57 years and has spent almost six decades learning about the institution of marriage.

He warned men not to take lightly the possibility of becoming completely dependent on their wives, particularly when it comes to basic needs such as food.

According to the veteran actor, a man who finds himself in a situation where his wife has to feed him for several days could face what he described as serious ridicule.

He said the insults that could come with such dependence could become so severe that the man might feel overwhelmed by the situation.

Edochie made the remarks while discussing marriage, family responsibilities and the traditional roles expected of husbands and wives.

The actor has remained one of the most recognised figures in Nollywood, with a career spanning several decades.

He became widely known after playing the role of Okonkwo in the television adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s classic novel Things Fall Apart.

His performance in the production helped establish him as one of Nigeria’s most respected actors and opened the way for a long career in film and television.

Over the years, Edochie has featured in hundreds of Nigerian movies and has become known for playing authoritative characters as well as sharing his views on traditional values, marriage and family life.

He has also built a reputation for using proverbs and traditional wisdom when discussing issues affecting relationships and society.

During the recent interview, Edochie stressed that his comments came from the perspective of a man who has spent many years in marriage and believes that men should take responsibility for providing for their families.
