Veteran Nollywood Actor Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’ Dies At 66

Veteran Nollywood actor and Yoruba film icon, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66.

Hassan reportedly died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, after a prolonged battle with cancer. His death was confirmed by sources close to the actor and later announced publicly, bringing an end to the life and career of one of Yoruba cinema’s most respected figures.

The actor’s daughter, Kira Taiwo, had recently disclosed that her father was battling stage-four cancer and appealed for support as his condition deteriorated. The family had also revealed that doctors had stopped chemotherapy because of the severity of his condition.

Ogogo was born on October 31, 1959, in Ilaro, Ogun State. He began his acting career in 1981 and went on to establish himself as an actor, producer and director in the Nigerian film industry.

Before becoming a full-time entertainer, Hassan had worked as an automobile mechanic and was also employed by the Lagos State Water Corporation.

Across more than four decades, Ogogo featured in several Yoruba and Nollywood productions, earning widespread recognition for his distinctive acting style and memorable roles.

His career saw him work alongside some of the biggest names in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, while his contribution to Yoruba-language cinema helped strengthen the popularity of indigenous storytelling on screen.
