Anglican Priest Suspended By Paul University Over Alleged Sex Scandal
Paul University, Awka, has suspended an Anglican priest serving as a staff member of the institution following allegations of sexual misconduct involving a female student.
The institution announced that Venerable Cornelius Eze, a technologist in the Department of Biological Sciences, has been placed on indefinite suspension while investigations into the allegations continue.
According to the university, the decision was taken after management received reports of the alleged incident and immediately activated its disciplinary procedures in line with its regulations.
The institution said law enforcement agencies have also been invited to investigate the matter independently, while its internal disciplinary panel examines the allegations.
University authorities stressed that the suspension is a precautionary measure intended to ensure a transparent investigation and protect the integrity of the process.
The management maintained that it has a strict policy against sexual harassment and any form of misconduct capable of undermining the safety, dignity and welfare of students.
It added that no member of staff, regardless of position or status, would be shielded from disciplinary action if found guilty of violating the institution’s code of conduct.
The university also appealed to students to remain calm and avoid spreading rumours capable of interfering with ongoing investigations.
It assured parents, guardians and members of the public that every necessary step is being taken to establish the facts and ensure justice is served.
Management reiterated its commitment to providing a secure academic environment where students can pursue their education free from intimidation, harassment or abuse.
The institution said further information on the case will be made available after investigations by both the university and security agencies have been concluded.
