Tinubu Appoints Fayose, Bindawa, Others In Major Shake-Up Of Federal Agencies
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the appointment of 26 individuals into 10 Federal Government agencies and commissions, in a major restructuring move aimed at strengthening leadership across key public institutions.
The appointments, which take immediate effect, include former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who has been named Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), while Major General Junaid Bindawa was appointed Chairman of the National Salary, Income and Wages Commission.
A statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the new appointments were part of the administration’s efforts to reposition government agencies for improved performance and effective service delivery.
At the REA, Fayose will lead a board that includes Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as members and non-executive directors. The agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, alongside three existing executive directors, will also serve as members of the board.
For the National Salary, Income and Wages Commission, President Tinubu appointed several commissioners and members to work alongside Major General Bindawa.
Former Lagos lawmaker, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, was appointed Secretary of the commission, while Dr Ogbole Ene Lilian, Oladele Olatubosun and Yakubu Umar Barde, representing Benue, Oyo and Kaduna states respectively, were named commissioners.
Other members appointed to the commission include Dr Mai Adamu Yau from Borno, Ginika Florence Tor from Enugu, Engineer Lawrence Okoh from Edo, and Bello Morenike Iyabode from Kogi State.
The President also approved the redeployment of Tosin Johnson Adeyanju, who was earlier appointed Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund, to become Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission.
In other appointments, Tinubu named Dr Abuh Mohammed as the new Director-General of the National Population Commission (NPC), while Dr Akinola Odeyemi was appointed Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).
The President also appointed Dr Anthony Inalegwu Godwin as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.
For the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM) in Kwara State, Engineer Julius Oloro, a former council chairman, was appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer. He replaces Dr A.R. Kamal, who died in January.
Tinubu also constituted the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, appointing Dr Abdullahi Maikano Saidu as chairman.
Members of the commission’s board include Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola.
The President further appointed Shuni Muhammad Dahiru as the new Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, replacing Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu, who was reassigned to the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) in April.
Also appointed was Gisaor Vincent Iorja as Executive Director of Finance at the Federal Housing Authority, following the resignation of the former occupant, Mathias Byuan, who stepped down to pursue a governorship ambition in Benue State.
Iorja, according to the statement, is an economist, legal scholar and academic who currently serves as Secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC).
The Presidency said all the appointments are effective immediately as the new appointees begin their responsibilities across the various federal institutions.
