Eid Pressure Mounts as Atiku Calls for El-Rufai’s Release, Questions Legality of Detention

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has stepped up calls for the release of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, insisting that his continued detention raises serious questions about fairness and due process.
Atiku said it was important for authorities to ensure that the rule of law is strictly followed, stressing that no public figure should remain in custody without clear and transparent justification, especially as the country approaches the Eid celebrations.
He argued that prolonged detention without full public clarity risks deepening political tension and weakening confidence in the justice system.
The former presidential candidate maintained that El-Rufai, like every other Nigerian, is entitled to fair hearing, access to legal representation, and proper judicial procedure without unnecessary delay.
He also expressed concern that the timing of the situation is sensitive, urging authorities to consider the emotional and social impact on families during a major religious period.
Atiku’s remarks add to the growing national debate surrounding El-Rufai’s ongoing legal challenges, which have continued to attract reactions from political actors and observers.
The case remains before the court, where proceedings are still ongoing and bail-related issues are yet to be fully resolved.
As public interest in the matter grows, attention is now focused on whether the authorities will respond to renewed calls for his release or allow the judicial process to take its full course without political interference.
