Pastor Retreats After Backlash Over Viral Marriage Appeal for Special Needs Man

A Nigerian cleric, Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, has issued an apology following widespread outrage over a social media post seeking a wife for an autistic man.

The controversial post, which quickly went viral, drew strong reactions from Nigerians who criticised the approach, describing it as insensitive and inappropriate. 

In response to the backlash, the pastor admitted fault and apologised publicly, stating that he did not intend to offend women or reduce marriage to a transactional arrangement.

He explained that his actions were motivated by concern for the man’s wellbeing, noting that the individual requires constant care and support due to his condition.

According to him, previous attempts to secure caregivers had proven difficult, prompting him to explore alternative options to ensure long-term assistance for the man.

The cleric further clarified that his intention was to provide stability and companionship, not to demean or objectify anyone.
