Ogun NYSC LGI in Custody Over Alleged Sexual Abuse of Corps Member Who Died

By Wellington Jopelo
A Local Government Inspector of the National Youth Service Corps in Ogun State, Abass Olalekan, has been taken into police custody following the death of a female corps member in Abeokuta.
The deceased, identified as Victoria Ariyo, was serving in Abeokuta South Local Government Area before her death earlier this week.
She reportedly died after complications linked to a terminated pregnancy and has since been buried at Kobape Cemetery along the Kobape-Sagamu Road.
Her death has raised serious concerns, coming barely a month after another corps member in the same local government area died under unclear circumstances.
Police sources confirmed that Olalekan is currently being held at the state command headquarters in Eleweran as investigations continue into the incident.
Allegations have emerged linking the NYSC official to a relationship with the deceased, with claims that it may have resulted in the pregnancy and its termination.
Sources further alleged that the official has a history of misconduct, including intimidation and abuse of power toward corps members under his supervision.

There are also claims that the medical practitioner involved in the case told investigators that the official had previously brought other corps members for similar procedures.
According to multiple accounts, the official is known for exerting pressure on female corps members, creating an atmosphere of fear and coercion within the system.
These allegations have raised questions about whether the relationship in question was truly consensual, given the power imbalance involved.
The police have confirmed that the case is being handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department, while authorities continue to gather evidence.
As of the time of filing this report, the NYSC in Ogun State has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident and the allegations surrounding it.
The Royal Times calls on relevant authorities and the general public to closely monitor the investigation and ensure that justice is served.
